GVSU Sweeps Wayne State In GLIAC Swimming & Diving Action

The Grand Valley State men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept a GLIAC dual at Wayne State Saturday afternoon in Detroit. The 4th-ranked Laker men claimed a 178-118 victory, while the 12th-ranked GVSU women topped the Warriors 159-141. The Lakers will host former GLIAC foe Findlay Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.

Women 
400 Medley Relay - The relay team of Freyja Garbaccio, Lara Deibel, Mercedes Martinez and Kathryn Culver touched second in 3:59.13, while Sam Postmus, Celia Hoag, Rachel Skoog and Sidney Weaver hit the wall fourth (4:06.29). 

1000 Free - Melina Goebel led a 1-2 finish when she hit the wall first in 10:35.83, followed by Caroline Brereton in second (11:02.97). Julia Suriano finished fourth in 11:07.90. 

200 Free - Sam Postmus hit the wall first in 1:56.26, followed by Kathryn Culver in third (1:57.50). 

100 Back - Freyja Garbaccio led a 1-2 GVSU finish when she hit the wall first in 1:00.11. Allison Wells finished second in 1:00.20 and Caroline Brereton fifth (1:03.41). 

100 Breast - Lara Deibel finished second in a time of 1:07.10, followed by Celia Hoag in third (1:08.27) and Jennifer Meulenbelt in fifth (1:09.98). 

200 Fly - Melina Goebel touched the wall second in 2:11.15, followed by Abigail Sauerbrei in third (2:13.64) and Mercedes Martinez in fifth (2:17.27). 

50 Free - Sidney Weaver finished second (25.10) and Hannah Richard third (25.25). 

1-meter Diving - Mikayla Karasek finished first with 272.25 points, while Nicole Taormina was fifth (235.64). 

3-Meter Diving - Mikayla Karasek finished third (253.56) and Devon Larson fourth (240.66). 

100 Free - Hannah Richard touched second (54.09), Kathryn Culver third (54.23) and Sidney Weaver fifth (55.35). 

200 Back - Caroline Brereton led a 1-2-3 finish for the Lakers in a time of 2:08.85, followed by Allison Wells in second (2:09.24) and Abigail Sauerbrei in third (2:09.94). 

200 Breast - Lara Deibel recorded a second-place finish in 2:26.52, followed by Celia Hoag in third (2:26.77) and Jennifer Meulenbelt in fifth (2:28.03). 

500 Free - Melina Goebel led a 1-2 finish when she touched in 5:10.50, followed by Megan Shaughnessy in second (5:17.52). 

100 Fly - Hannah Richard finished second in 58.86, followed by Mercedes Martinez in third (59.86) and Freyja Garbaccio in fifth (1:00.72). 

200 IM - Sam Postmus finished first in 2:08.87, Abigail Sauerbrei fourth (2:15.85) and Brereton in fifth (2:16.70). 

400 Free Relay - Deibel, Culver, Richard and Goebel finished 1st (3:34.65). 

Men

400 Medley Relay - Harry Shalamon, Marius Mikalauskas, Joe Zlotnick and Gonzalo Rodriguez hit the wall second (3:26.53), followed by James Zetka, Ahmed Nabih, Tabor Smyth and JD Ham in third (3:35.01). 

1000 Free - Moritz Bartels hit the wall first (9:45.12), followed by Dayen Wilson in third (9:59.05) and Jonathan Loshinskie in fourth (10:08.29). 

200 Free - Lauri Hatunen led a 1-2-3 finish when he hit the wall first in 1:45.83. Cade Vruggink finished second (1:46.19) and Ben Walling third (1:46.68). 

100 Back - Harry Shalamon touched second (52.38), Tabor Smyth third (54.47) and James Zetka fourth (56.24). 

100 Breast - Marius Mikalauskas finished second in 57.56, Ahmed Nabih third (57.62) and Ian Weslowski fourth (1:05.04). 

200 Fly - Joe Zlotnick hit the wall third (1:58.46), Grant Borregard fourth (1:58.86) and Gonzalo Rodriguez fifth (1:59.50). 

50 Free - Ben Walling finished second (21.42), Jack Bruce third (21.71) and JD Ham fourth (21.99). 

1-Meter Diving - Joe Gucwa recorded a first-place finish with a score of 280.42, followed by Jared Gregory in third (249.15) and Alex Miller in fourth (247.65). 

3-Meter Diving - Jared Gregory led a 1-2 finish with a score of 309.08, followed by Joe Gucwa in second (309.00). Alex Miller was fourth with a score of 271.95. 

100 Free - Ben Walling hit the wall first in 47.27, while JD Ham finished fourth (48.60) and Lauri Hatunen fifth (48.85). 

200 Back - Harry Shalamon finished second (1:55.77), Grant Borregard third (1:57.93) and James Zetka fourth (2:02.10). 

200 Breast - Ahmed Nabih tallied a first-place finish in 2:05.99, followed by Marius Mikalauskas in second (2:06.32) and Ian Weslowski in fifth (2:23.03). 

500 Free - Moritz Bartels hit the wall first  (4:45.93), Dayen Wilson third (4:53.66) and Jonathan Loshinskie fourth (4:54.69). 

100 Fly - Harry Shalamon finished second (52.94), Gonzalo Rodriguez third (53.31) and Joe Zlotnick fourth (53.99). 

200 IM - Marius Mikalauskas finished second (1:58.21), followed by Ahmed Nabih in third (1:58.25) and Grant Borregard in fourth (1:58.91).

400 Free Relay - The Lakers closed with a win in the 400 free relay as Ben Walling, JD Ham, Lauri Hatunen and Gonzalo Rodriguez hit the wall first in 3:07.47, while Liam Little, David Turner, Cade Vruggink and Jack Bruce touched third (3:15.70).
