Lakers Claim 1-0 Win Over Ferris State

Box Score #5 Grand Valley State won its eighth consecutive game via shutout and improved to 8-2 overall 3-0 in the GLIAC action with a 1-0 win over Ferris State Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 824 at the GVSU Soccer Field.

Prior to today's match, GVSU was on a seven-game winning streak and Ferris State on a three-game winning streak, as both teams were undefeated in GLIAC action.

Midfielder Tara Lierman netted the game winner for the Lakers in the 13th minute when forward Ava Cook crossed a pass to the midfielder. Lierman tapped the ball past the Ferris State goalkeeper to give the Lakers the only goal they would need.

Play continued to be physical in the second period, as 14 fouls were called between the teams, including 10 on the Lakers.

Grand Valley State was awarded two penalty shots in the contest, but were unable to reach the back of the net as the Bulldogs kept within striking distance.

Ferris State continued to press in the later stages of the game, but the Laker defense held strong and kept the Bulldogs out of the scoring column.

Grand Valley State outshot Ferris State 17-7 and have not allowed a goal in 730 minutes.

The Lakers will be on the road for their next two matches, taking on Ashland (6-3-1, 3-0 GLIAC) Friday (Oct. 6) and Tiffin on Sunday (Oct.8).
