In the first matchup between the Grand Valley State women's soccer team and the Panthers of Ohio Dominican on October 11
th, the Lakers used a flurry of three goals in seven minutes to break open the game against an opponent that gave them a loss last season.
Â
One of just two losses in the 2014 season, the Ohio Dominican loss also snapped the Laker's 69 match home unbeaten streak, which gives the Lakers plenty of motivation to defend their home pitch this Friday in the 2015 GLIAC Tournament Semifinal.
Â
"I think our side is excited to play ODU because we have a lot of respect for their program, and they are a very capable side," Hosler said. "They are very athletic, they have good size, they're a physical team and they are very well coached. I think our team knows that we need to have a total team focus on Friday to get the result we desire."
Â
By winning Tuesday's quarterfinal matchup against Malone, the Lakers locked up home field advantage for the remainder of the tournament, should they continue to advance. Playing at home has been a big advantage this season, as they are 11-0 at home this season and have outscored opponents 57-4 in those matches.
Â
"I think our girls have a lot of confidence wherever we play right now, but being able to play at home because we earned it is big. I know the girls are excited because they can sleep in their own bed, eat their own food as opposed to having to travel.
Â
If the Lakers are playing in their top form right now, then that's right on pace with where the team was last season before going on to win the GLIAC Tournament.
Â
"This is about the time last year that we turned it up a notch, playing with a little more urgency, playing just a little bit harder, so I expect to see that starting this week. It's all a matter of going out and taking care of business this week as we play for another trophy."
Â
