NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The 15th-ranked Grand Valley State baseball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped on Sunday (Apr. 13), falling 15-12 to Walsh in the series finale between the two teams.

The loss drops the Lakers to 23-8 overall on the season with a 14-3 record in the GLIAC, while Walsh is now 17-18 overall with a 9-8 record in the conference.

The Lakers will be on the diamond again on Wednesday (Apr. 16) for a nine-inning game at Saginaw Valley State at 2 p.m.

GVSU jumped out to a 7-2 lead after only two innings of play, getting a three-run homer from Jesse Abel in the first inning, then a two-RBI single from Jamie Potts in the top of the second followed by a Giancarlo Brugnoni bases-loaded walk and Abel RBI single.

Walsh started its comeback in the bottom of the fourth with a bases-loaded walk of their own and a two-RBI single that cut the lead to 7-5.

After the Lakers got one run back in the top of the fifth with the help of a Walsh error, GVSU then put a four-spot up in the top of the sixth, getting a two-RBI double from Taylor Banks and a two-run homer by Stuart Eisler that pushed the lead out to 12-5.

Walsh got a single run in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 12-6 game, then completed the comeback with a huge seven-run seventh inning that included a game-tying grand slam and a go-ahead RBI double that put the Cavaliers out front, 13-12.

Walsh used that momentum to put two more insurance runs on the board in the bottom of the eighth that pushed the lead out to 15-12, an advantage they would hold on to in the ninth for the victory.

Four Lakers had multiple RBIs in the game, led by Abel, who was 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBI. Potts finished 2-for-6 with two runs and two RBI, while Banks and Eisler each had one hit and two RBI, with Banks scoring three times and Eisler scoring twice.
