ORLANDO, Fla. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team faced a stiff test on Tuesday (Mar. 4) morning, facing No. 15 Nova Southeastern. The Lakers battled and took three of six singles matches, but fell 6-3.
GVSU is now 14-5 overall on the year, while Nova Southeastern moves to 5-3 overall.
Nova Southeastern swept all three doubles matches, but the team of Kelly Trapp and Kristina Lucas fell in a tight 8-6 match.
GVSU rebounded in singles, getting victories from Leah Dancz at No. 3 singles (6-3, 7-5), Carola Orna at No. 5 (6-3, 6-0) and from Kelly Trapp at No. 6 (6-1, 6-1). Lexi Rice went up against Alex Johansson, the No. 37 singles player in the country and took her to three sets before falling in a 6-1, 7-6 (10-3), 10-6 match.
The Lakers will continue their Florida trip on Thursday (Mar. 6) with two matches scheduled. GVSU will take on Coe College at 8 a.m., followed by Evangel at noon.
