GVSU Wraps Up Road Trip With Loss to Michigan Tech

Houghton, Mich. - Sophomore forward Ricardo Carbajal scored a team-high 11 points, but the Grand Valley State men's basketball team fell, 69-54, at Michigan Tech Saturday (Jan. 18) afternoon.

Carbajal was the only Laker to reach double-figures, knocked down 4-of-8 attempts and grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds. Junior center Darren Washington converted six freebies en route to an eight-point performance. Junior guard Ryan Sabin also chipped in eight points and collected a team-high six boards.

Sophomore guard Ernijs Ansons gave GVSU its first lead of the game at the 11:54 mark with a three-point jumper. The Huskies answered with a trey of their own to retake a 12-10 lead. A pair of free throws by junior forward Chaz Rollins tied the game up and the Lakers gained a 15-12 advantage with a three from freshman guard Luke Ryskamp.

However, Michigan Tech would knot the score up on the ensuing possession and take the lead for good with 5:58 remaining in the first half.

The loss drops GVSU's overall record to 11-3 and to 7-3 in GLIAC play. The Lakers will now return home for a clash with Lake Superiror State on Thursday (Jan. 23) evening. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST at the Fieldhouse Arena.
