Lakers Take Two on Sunday

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team took part in a pair of matches on Sunday (Sept. 22) and dominated both. GVSU beat Lake Superior State, 9-0, in a GLIAC match-up, before taking down Davenport, 8-1, in a non-conference tilt at the GVSU Tennis Courts.

The pair of wins gives the Lakers a spectacular 8-1 record heading in to a pair of tournaments in the coming weeks. GVSU will play in the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament September 27th-29th in Indianapolis, Ind.

In the morning contest against Lake Superior State, GVSU controlled play from the beginning, sweeping the three doubles matches, while only giving up five sets total.

In singles play, only one match went to three sets and Kali Phillips won at #1 singles in dominating fashion, winning 6-2, 6-1.

Against Davenport in an afternoon match-up, the Lakers swept doubles yet again. GVSU's #2 doubles (Dancz/Phillips) and #3 doubles teams (varies) are now a combined 18-0 on the season.

In singles, Lexi Rice won her #1 singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-3 and the Lakers captured five of the six singles matches.
