ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team won its third straight match on Saturday (Sept. 21), defeating Michigan Tech, 6-3 at the GVSU Tennis Courts.
The victory moves the Lakers to 6-1 on the season and it is their second three-match winning streak of the year.
GVSU picked up two doubles victories to start, as the team of Leah Dancz and Kali Phillips moved to 7-0 on the season with an 8-0 victory at #2 doubles. Niki Shipman and Morgan Patterson upped their record at #3 doubles to 6-0 with an 8-1 victory.
In singles, Shipman had the highest victory, at #3 singles (7-5, 6-1) and is now 6-0 on the year. Between both singles and doubles, Shipman now has a 12-0 record on the season.
Kelly Trapp stayed undefeated on the season as well, picking up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #5 singles and is now 5-0 on the year. Morgan Patterson won her #6 singles match (6-1, 6-3) and is now 4-0 on the season.
The Lakers will finish up their home-stand on Sunday (Sept. 22) with two matches. GVSU is scheduled to take on Lake Superior State at 10 a.m., then faces Davenport for a non-conference contest at 2 p.m.
