Men's Tennis Survives Findlay, 5-4, in GLIAC Consolation Round

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis survives Findlay, 5-4, in the GLIAC Semifinal Consolation match on Saturday afternoon at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

Grand Valley State fell behind in doubles competition, grabbing a win only at the No. 2 position. Andrew Darrell and Quinn Sylow defeated Yannick Mohring and Reid Wynkoop in a long, 9-8 (11-9) victory.

In singles action, GVSU took three of its matches to three sets, but it was a pair of wins from No. 3 and No. 5 that gave the match to the Lakers. Francis Bertrand had little trouble in the No. 1 position with a 6-2, 6-1 victory to pull the Lakers even. Findlay responded with 6-3, 6-1 win in the No. 4 slot.

With Findlay ahead, Darrell grabbed a 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 2 position to even the score. Doubles partner Sylow then took his match to three sets, to come out in front, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 position. The Lakers wrapped up the win with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win from Andrew Bole at No. 3 singles to advance to the fifth-place match on Sunday.

Grand Valley State now faces Michigan Tech on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
