CLERMONT, Fla. - The Grand Valley State softball team picked up a pair of wins against regional opponent Lewis, 5-3, before shutting out Assumption, 4-0, in the second game of the day at the NTC Spring Games on Tuesday morning.

In game one of the day, Lewis and GVSU each left runners stranded in the opening four innings to come up scoreless. Junior Miranda Cleary got things started in the fifth with a homer to right center for the 1-0 lead. Senior Emily Jones followed suit an inning later with a home run of her own down the left line for the 2-0 advantage.

GVSU added to its lead in the top of the seventh when Cleary was issued a lead off walk and moved o second on Emily Holt's sacrifice bunt. A pinch-hit double from freshman Taylor Fris scored Cleary. Senior Maggie Kopas reentered to run and on classmate Nellie Kosola's single moved to third. With two outs and runners on second and third, it looked like Katie Martin's hit to centerfield would end the inning, but an error on the catch allowed the runners to score and make it a 5-0 game.

Lewis threatened in the seventh, scoring three runs and loading the bases with two outs. A hit-by-pitch brought the third run to score, but the Laker infield closed out the game with a pop out to shortstop.

Senior Hannah Santora pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits and three runs in her third win in as many days. Cleary was the only Laker to record two hits as she was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Freshman Sara Andrasik was in the circle for game two and bested her 11 strikeouts against Georgian Court with 12 strikeouts in the shut out against Assumption. Andrasik only allowed one hit and three walks in her second win of the season.

Grand Valley State plated two in the first inning on Emily Jones' sacrifice fly scored Kosola who reached on a single. Cleary followed with a sacrifice of her own scoring senior Brittany Taylor who made it to first on an error before moving around the bases.

In the fourth, Cleary earned a walk with Chelsea Horvath coming on board to pinch run. Horvath moved to second on Tonya Calkins bunt in front of the plate before coming home on a double from Kayleigh Bertram for a 3-0 lead.

GVSU added one more run when a single from Jones scored Kosola from third who reached on a bunt single, moved on a sacrifice bunt and then stole third. Kosola went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Jones went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
