GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team came up just short to crosstown rival, Aquinas, as the Lakers fell 5-4, on Friday night at the Orchard Hills Tennis Complex.
The Lakers fell behind after their doubles matches as only Andrew Bole and Ben Esh-Nauta walked away with a win, taking an 8-6 victory in the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Francis Bertrand defeated Aaron Hendrick, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, while Andrew Darrell won 0-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 2 singles spot. Aquinas grabbed wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, but GVSU was able to even the score with a victory from Quinn Sylow. Sylow defeated Frankie Fisher, 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the No. 5 position. In the last singles event, Michael Kaye was able to take his match to three sets, but fell short, as Aquinas' Andy Strube won 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
GVSU continues its season against Lewis on Sunday at 2 p.m. The match is in Lockport, Ill. at Challenge Fitness.
