ASHLAND, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team routed Ashland on Sunday (Oct. 13) with a 9-0 victory to close out the weekend road trip.
The win moves the Lakers to 10-3 overall on the year with a 9-3 record in the GLIAC. Ashland falls to 7-7 both overall and in the conference.
Only four matches on the day were played to completion due to a lack of players on Ashland's side. In #1 doubles, the team of Carola Orna and Lexi Rice won an 8-3 decision, while the team of Kali Phillips and Leah Dancz won via retirement at #2 doubles.
In singles, Phillips picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the #1 slot, while Morgan Patterson played up from her usual spot in singles and took a 6-3, 6-0 decision at #2 singles. Kelly Trapp shut out her opponent at #4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Niki Shipman won her #3 singles match via retirement.
GVSU will finish the regular season GLIAC portion of its schedule with a 1 p.m. match in Big Rapids, Mich. against Ferris State on Thursday (Oct. 17).
