TIFFIN, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 6-3 decision to Tiffin on Friday (Oct. 11) afternoon. The Lakers split the singles matches, but it was not enough to overcome the up-and-coming Dragons.
The loss drops GVSU to 9-3 overall on the year with an 8-3 mark in the GLIAC. Tiffin is now 14-1 overall with an 11-1 record in the conference.
In doubles, the Dragons got out to a big lead by sweeping all three matches. The team of Niki Shipman/Morgan Patterson nearly got the Lakers on the board, but fell 9-8 at #3 doubles.
In singles, Shipman was able to stay undefeated in dual match play, moving her record to 10-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #4 singles. Kelly Trapp did the same at #6 singles, moving to 9-0 on the year in dual matches with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Carola Orna took home a victory at #5 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
GVSU continues its road trip with a 10 a.m. match at Ohio Dominican on Saturday (Oct. 12).
