GRANDVILLE, Mich. - Despite several close sets, the Grand Valley State men's tennis team snapped a six-match GLIAC win streak as it fell to No. 49 Wayne State, 5-4, on Friday afternoon at Ramblewood Tennis Club.
GVSU is now 10-10 on the season, including a 6-2 mark in conference play with just a match against Ferris State on April 12 to close out league play before the GLIAC tournament.
The Lakers struggled in the doubles competition as the Warriors picked up two points in what would be the difference in the match. The duo of Andrew Darrell and Marc Roesslein at the No. 1 spot took their set over regionally-ranked Aman Gill and Melvin Joseph, 8-5, for GVSU's only doubles point.
In singles action, Darrell and Roesslein picked up their games at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Darrell was able to defeat Thomas Ducret, 7-5, 6-2. Roesslein fell behind a set, but was able to win 6-7 (8), 6-2, 6-2, over Michael FitzGerald. Senior Benny Delgado-Rochas also picked up a singles win in the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-3 over Gill.
