Lakers Fall At Lindenwood, 17-10

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team could not overcome a strong second half from Lindenwood as the Lakers fell 17-10 on Friday evening at Hunter Stadium.

GVSU drops to 8-7 on the season, preparing for its game against Adams State on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Lindenwood's stadium. Lindenwood improves to 12-2 on the year.

The teams tied the score twice before Lindenwood was able to pull away later in the first half, 5-3, with less than 12 minutes left in the first. GVSU then tallied back-to-back goals to knot the score at five, but Lindenwood responded, netting three straight to hold an 8-5 lead with 1:19 on the clock.

GVSU and Lindenwood each scored a goal to close the half to take a 9-6 score into the break.

The Lakers struggled offensively in the second half, tallying only four goals including two of junior Allyson Fritts' (Howell, Mich.) team-high three goals for the game.

Lindenwood opened the second stanza with a 6-1 run to lead 15-7 at 18:14 on the clock. GVSU was able to limit the Lions to just two goals over the closing minutes, but the lead was too much to overcome.

Fritts led the Lakers with three goals while freshman Victoria Devine (Centereach, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Meagan Emery (Belmont, Mich.) each notched two.Freshman keeper Audrey Kobe (New Hudson, Mich.) had eight saves.

For the game, Lindenwood held a slight edge in shots, 32-30, but GVSU controlled off the draw, 18-11. Grand Valley State struggled on free-position shots, converting only two of their 11 chances.

Kara Cashen notched a team-high five goals for Lindenwood, while Lexi Cushna tallied four goals and had two assists.
