DENVER, Colo. – The Grand Valley State women’s lacrosse team could not contain Regis as it fell 15-12 to the Rangers on Sunday afternoon at the Regis Lacrosse Field.
GVSU drops to 5-6 on the season, while Regis improves to 6-4. The Lakers now travel to Ohio to play Lake Erie on Friday, April 6 and Tiffin on Saturday, April 7. Both games are scheduled for 1 p.m.
Regis was able to take a 6-1 lead in the first half after scoring the opening goal. Freshman Jordan Luberto (Okemos, Mich.) scored the lone goal for GSU in the opening 20 minutes of the game.
The Lakers responded with five straight goals to tie the game at 6-6 with 5:30 left in the first. Freshmen Victoria Devine (Centereach, N.Y.), Luberto, Korinne Culley (Hilliard, Ohio) and redshirt freshman Ali Dixon (Farmington Hills, Mich.) each tallied a goal during the run with Rachel Leibovitz (Naperville, Mich.) netting the tying goal.
Regis’ Morgan Taylor ended the stretch with a goal to give the Rangers a lead before Devine and Luberto hit back-to-back goals to give the Lakers’ an 8-7 lead into the halftime.
The lead was short lived as the Rangers went on a 4-0 run to hold an 11-8 lead with 23:49 left in the game. GVSU pulled it to within, 11-10, thanks to goals from Meagan Emery (Belmont, Mich.) and Culley, but it would be the closest the Lakers would get for the remainder of the game. Regis then went on a 4-1 run to end the game and end the Lakers’ four-game winning streak.
Luberto led the Lakers with three goals and two assists, while Culley had two goals and an assist. Emery, Devine and Dixon each tallied two goals. Freshman Audrey Kobe (New Hudson, Mich.) tallied four saves in the loss.
The game was evenly matched as each team took 22 shots, while Regis held a slim 11-10 margin in ground balls. Regis had a strong advantage in draw controls, holding a 17-12 edge.
