FINDLAY, Ohio – The Grand Valley State men’s tennis team picked up its third straight GLIAC win with a 7-2 victory at Findlay on Friday afternoon at the Findlay YMCA.
GVSU improves to 6-9 on the season and 3-1 in conference action, while Findlay drops to 6-3 on the season.
The Lakers picked up two points in doubles in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Sophomore Bryan Hodges (Bloomfield, Mich.) and freshman John McDonald (Farmington Hills, Mich.) won 8-3 in the second spot, while seniors Josh Kazdan (Southfield, Mich.) and Dan Jarboe (Traverse City, Mich.) won 8-2 in the No. 3 spot.
At No. 1 singles sophomore Andrew Darrell (Kalamazoo, Mich.) won due to Kyle Collette retiring in the third set. Darrell won the first set, 7-5, before falling behind 3-5 in the second set, but Collette was forced to end the match.
Senior Marc Roesslein (Basel, Switzerland) beat Dawid Hebda, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 3 spot, while Hodges won, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4. Kazdan was able to grab a 6-0, 6-2 win over Matt Smith in No. 5 singles, while McDonald beat out Connor Majdalani, 6-4, 6-3, in the sixth spot.
Grand Valley State continues conference play in Ohio against Tiffin on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
