ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team used goals from 11 different players to down Urbana, 21-4, on Sunday afternoon at the Laker Lacrosse Stadium.
The Lakers improve their record to 2-4 on the season, while also earning their first-ever home win. Urbana falls to 0-7 on the year.
Freshmen Jordan Luberto (Okemos, Mich.), Zoe Stiemann (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Korinne Culley (Hilliard, Ohio) each tallied three goals, while Luberto had two assists. Freshmen Rachel Leibovitz (Naperville, Ill.), Brooke Ingraham (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Victoria Devine (Centereach, N.Y.) as well as redshirt freshman Meagan Emery (Belmont, Mich.) added two goals apiece.
Freshmen Niki Jacobs (Wixom, Mich.) and Marissa Mushna (South Lyon, Mich.) tallied their first goals of the season against Urbana and each tallied two assists. Redshirt freshman Sarah Lowe (Okemos, Mich.) had a team-high four assists.
The Lakers started off the game quick, with Luberto scoring just 12 seconds into the game. It was the fastest GVSU has scored this season. Grand Valley State continued their streak, taking a 15-1 lead into halftime.
GVSU was able to tally a goal out of the break to take a 16-1 lead, but Urbana got its second goal of the game on Emily Boerger's unassisted goal for a 16-2 score. The Blue Knights tallied two more goals in the second half, but the Lakers maintained their distance for the win.
Freshman Audrey Kobe (New Hudson, Mich.) got the win in the net with five save, while classmate Kelsey LaValley (South Lyon, Mich.) saw her first minutes in the cage, tallying four saves.
For the game, GVSU held a 29-16 advantage in shots and an 18-9 edge for draw controls. The teams controlled the ball well, with GVSU holding a slight 18-17 lead in ground balls while each recording 11 turnovers.
Urbana was led by three goals from Emily Boerger and one from Nora Boerger, while in the net Emily Brumley picked up five saves.
GVSU is back in action on Saturday, March 24 against Tiffin at 1 p.m. at the Laker Lacrosse Stadium.
