ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team picked up two victories on Friday. The Lakers shut out Findlay, 9-0, and also won against Hillsdale, 8-1.

The Lakers improve to 12-2 in league play and sit in third place.  Findlay drops to 1-13, while Hillsdale falls to 9-5.

In the Hillsdale match, the Lakers got a 2-0 lead in doubles on victories from Leah Dancz and Morgan Carney (8-2) in the No. 2 spot and Niki Shipman and Kali Phillips (8-0) in the No. 3 slot.

Shipman picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win in the top spot against Brittany Parks, while Phillips also won, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 5 singles spot.  Dancz earned a 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 2 spot and Carney won, 7-6 (4), 6-4, at the No. 4 slot.  Rounding out singles play was junior Lexi Rice with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3, while Katelyn Schaffer won 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 slot.

The squad that traveled to Findlay picked up the team's fourth shut out victory of the season.  Freshman Claire Cooper defeated Viktoriya Shkola in a three-set match, 6-3, 7-6, 7-2 to secure the 9-0 win. Sophomore Morgan Patterson (No. 3) and freshman Rebecca Phyle (No. 6) each earned, 6-0, 6-0 against their opponents.

The Lakers now await their final seed in the GLIAC tournament which begins on Friday, Oct. 26 in Midland, Mich. at the Midland Tennis Center.
