FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 14 Grand Valley State women’s soccer team scored two second-half goals to down Indianapolis, 2-1, in its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday evening. GVSU now takes to the road to play Lake Erie on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The Lakers improve to 4-0-2 on the season, while Indianapolis drops to 3-3 on the year.
GVSU came back from a goal down in the second half off senior Megan Brown’s (Jenison, Mich.) deflection off the crossbar. Brown’s shot ricocheted off the bar past the goal line to even the score at 1-1 in the 59th minute.
Junior Ashley Botts (Beloit, Wisc.) saved the Lakers from going into their fourth overtime game in six matches, tallying a goal in three games at 84:43. Botts beat an Indy defender to go one-on-one with goalkeeper Shae Morris and find the net from five yards out to score her third game-winning goal in as many games.
The Greyhounds got on the board in the first half when Lauren Soza connected on a GVSU rebound in the 20th minute. The goal snapped Laker goalkeeper Chelsea Parise’s three-game shutout streak.
For the sixth straight game, GVSU outshot its opponents, holding a 21-9 margin. The Lakers also had a 13-3 edge in corner kicks. Parise made six saves in the win, while Morris tallied 12.
