Box Score

Columbus, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's basketball team opened up a 22 point lead in the first half against Ohio Dominican on Thursday (Dec. 1) night, but a 41-9 run from the Panthers led to a come from behind victory by a 76-58 score.

It was only 10 minutes into the game when the Lakers looked to seize control of the contest, opening up a 28-6 lead after a lay-up from junior Briauna Taylor.

The comfortable lead was short-lived, however, as Ohio Dominican responded with 19 straight points and pulled to within 28-25 only six minutes later. A jumper by Stodola finally ended the run and gave GVSU a five-point advantage. The Panthers again drew within three points with 20 seconds to play in the opening half after a jumper and junior Alex Stelfox answered with a jumper of her own with five seconds left in the first half to give the Lakers a 36-31 halftime advantage.

GVSU shot 57.7-percent from the field in the first half and got 11 points from Stodola.

It took only one minute into the second half for the Panthers to erase the rest of the deficit they faced. Two free throws and an old fashioned three point play at the 18:58 mark tied the game at 36 and Ohio Dominican never looked back. It wasn't until nearly four minutes into the second half when senior guard Jasmine Padin hit a jumper did the Lakers score. GVSU had already fallen behind and Padin's jumper cut the Panther lead to 47-38, but Ohio Dominican would ultimately coast to victory behind a 59.1-percent shooting percentage in the second half.

Stodola had 18 points and three rebounds in the game while junior Brittany Taylor was the only other Laker in double figures, scoring 12 points while pulling down six rebounds. Sophomore Dani Crandall had seven rebounds off the bench.

The Lakers now sit at 2-3 on the season and start their GLIAC schedule 0-1 with the loss. GVSU will look to find the winning column on Saturday (Dec. 3) when the Lakers head to Tiffin, Ohio to take on the Dragons for a 1 p.m. tip.
