ASHLAND, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win at Ashland at the AU Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.
The win improves the Lakers record to 8-2 overall and 7-2 in the GLIAC, while Ashley falls to 8-3 overall and in conference play.
Ashland picked up their lone point in doubles play at the No. 1 position. Freshman Leah Dancz (Hudsonville, Mich.) and junior Allison Fecko (Grand Rapids, Mich.) won 8-5 over Erika Sullivan and Zdenka Pozo in the No. 2 spot, while sophomores Lexi Rice (Augusta, Mich.) and Niki Shipman (Saline, Mich.) downed Kira Kotova and Sally Trout, 8-4.
The singles competition went in favor of the Lakers as all spots were won by GVSU. Four matches were won in two straight sets, while sophomore Anne Marie Morin (Rochester Hills, Mich.) shut out her competition at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
GVSU now plays at Ohio Dominican on Saturday at 11 a.m.
