HOUGHTON, Mich. – The No. 3 Grand Valley State women’s soccer team ended its five-game road swing with a 3-0 win at Michigan Tech on Sunday afternoon at Sherman Field.  The Lakers return to the GVSU Soccer Field on Friday against Tiffin at 7 p.m.

With its fifth consecutive shutout, GVSU is now 13-0-2 overall and 12-0 in the GLIAC, remaining in first place in the league.  Michigan Tech drops to 5-8-1 on the season and 3-8-1 in conference play.

The Lakers tallied two goals in the first half while limiting the Huskies to just one shot in the opening 45 minutes.  Junior Ashley Botts (Beloit, Wisc.) scored the game-winning goal at 36:01 off a pass from sophomore Tayler Ward (Grand Blanc, Mich.), beating the goalie with a low shot into the net for a 1-0 lead.

Classmate Kayla Addison (Southfield, Mich.) scored just two minutes later off her own rebounded shot.  Just three seconds earlier, Husky keeper Mary Beth Spoehr turned away Addison’s shot, but Botts got the rebound and passed it to Addison, who fired her 11th goal of the season into the net.

In the 59th minute, Botts posted her second goal of the game for her fourth multi-goal game of the season.  Just like her opening goal, Botts received a pass, this time from Addison, to beat the goalie and find the lower corner of the net.

For the game, GVSU out shot Michigan Tech, 13-8, while holding a 4-0 margin in corner kicks.  Junior Chelsea Parise (Warren, Mich.) posted three saves in her eighth shutout of the season, while Spoehr turned away three as well.
