No. 3 GVSU Dominates Northern Michigan, 5-0

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The No. 3 Grand Valley State women's soccer team dominated Northern Michigan, 5-0, at the Northern Michigan Outdoor Fields on a windy Friday afternoon. The Lakers now travel to Michigan Tech for a Sunday game at noon.

GVSU improves to 12-0-2 on the season and 11-0 in the GLIAC, while Northern Michigan drops to 7-4-3 overall and 5-4-2 in the conference play.

Junior Kayla Addison (Southfield, Mich.) was a standout with two goals and two assists, while senior Erin Mruz (Gurnee, Ill.) scored a goal and two assists.

The Lakers wasted little time taking the lead when Addison opened the scoring at the 9:32 mark.  Mruz found Addison on the right side, who then fired it in from 10 yards out for what would be the game-winning goal.

In the 28th minute, Mruz relayed the ball to Addison who found senior Jessica Trost (Canton, Mich.) five-yards out on the right side. Trost scored her third goal of the season for the 2-0 lead. 

GVSU continued its scoring, tallying goals in the 50th and 52ndminute from Mruz and Addison, respectively.  Freshman Juane Odendaal (London, Ontario) finished off the scoring at the 63:03 mark to make it a 5-0 game. Odendaal's goal was her third of the season.

Addison now has 10 goals on the year with four assists, while Mruz owns three goals and nine assists.

The Lakers outshot Northern Michigan, 11-3, while holding a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.  NMU keeper Jessica Baker made five saves, while junior Chelsea Parise (Warren, Mich.) did not have to make a save in her fourth consecutive shutout.
