GVSU Defeats Indianapolis 3-0 in Nonconference Action

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Grand Valley State women's soccer team defeated Indianapolis 3-0 in a nonconference match Tuesday evening (Sept. 28) in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Lakers had three different players record goals, while holding the Greyhounds to only four shots. GVSU will return to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Sunday, Oct. 3, when they face Ohio Dominican at 1:00 p.m.

The Lakers scored their first goal of the game at the 21:55 mark. Sophomore Erin Hilbert notched her third goal of the season after she scored on a breakaway down the middle of the field. Four minutes later during the 25th minute, sophomore Alyssa Mira recorded her second goal of the year. Teammate Kayla Addison crossed the ball over to Mira, where she knocked it in from four yards out, giving GVSU a 2-0 lead at half. The tough Laker defense held Indianapolis from attempting a shot, while GVSU took 18 shots, including nine on frame.

During the second half of action, Grand Valley State's senior Erika Pitroff scored after Jessica Trost's shot was blocked. Pitroff rebounded the ball and scored from three yards out, giving the Lakers a 3-0 win.

GVSU outshot the Greyhounds by a 35-4 margin, including a 17-3 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Chelsea Parise notched her fifth shutout victory and recorded three saves in the match. The Lakers advance their record to 8-1-1 overall, while Indianapolis falls to 1-6-1 overall.
