Results

Springfield, Mo. - The #31 Grand Valley State women's tennis team advanced to the second round of the NCAA DII #2 Midwest Regional with a convincing 5-1 win over Ashland at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri. GVSU (21-8), will face the winner of the Drury-Northern Kentucky match Saturday (May 8) at 10 a.m. for the right to advance to the final 16 of the 2010 NCAA DII National Championships in Orlando, Florida.

GVSU jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles action. Darylann Trout and Chelsea Johnston claimed an 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Katelyn Schaffer and Tara Hayes came out on top, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles. The Lakers secured the match with wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Trout claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, while Allison Fecko (6-1, 6-0) and Shipman (6-0, 6-1) claimed victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. The results of matches involving No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles went unfinished.
