The Grand Valley State's men's tennis team earned a victory in its first match of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament on Saturday (April 17), over Lake Superior State by a 5-2 decision. GVSU is the #5 seed and advances to play #1-seeded Northwood. The match will be played at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday in Midland, Mich. The Lakers improve to 12-10 on the season, while LSSU ends its season at 8-9.
The Lakers took four of the six single matches and only needed one double win to ensure the victory. The duo of Marc Roesslein and Pat Snyder defeated Razvan Mag and Pawel Wegrzyn by a score of 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles slot.
Brock Plangger defeated Wegrzyn 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles, while Jeff Globerson won 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot. The other two victories went to Josh Kazdan (6-0, 7-5) and Alex Parker (6-2, 6-1).
GVSU will play Northwood for the second time this season. The Timberwolves got the best of Grand Valley on April 6, as they won in Allendale, Mich. by a count of 8-1. Northwood has gone 11-4 on the season and finished first in the GLIAC with a mark of 7-0.
