Lakers Record Three Second Half Goals to Defeat Findlay 3-1

Findlay, Ohio - The No. 3 Grand Valley State women's soccer team scored three second half goals to claim a 3-1 win over Findlay on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 24). GVSU's Kayla Addison notched two goals and an assist, while Erin Mruz recorded two assists and Jaleen Dingledine claimed a goal and an assist in the match. The Lakers advance their record to 14-1-2 overall, 11-1-2 in GLIAC action, while the Oilers fall to 6-5-3 overall, 6-5-1 GLIAC.

Findlay got on the scoreboard first during the first five minutes of the game. At the 4:20 mark, the Oilers chip a ball over goalkeeper Chelsea Parise from the right side, 25 yards out, giving Findlay a 1-0 lead.

The Lakers responded during the second half of action, while GVSU notched three goals in the last five minutes of the game. At the 85:39 mark, Addison was set up by teammates Mruz and Dingledine. Addison received the ball off a deflection and kicked it in from three yards out, tying the score 1-1. Just a minute later Addison recorded her second goal of the match after Mruz passed the ball up the center of the field and knocked it in from 10 yards out.

GVSU claimed its third goal of the match during the 89th minute of the match after Addison crossed the ball over to Dingledine and then took a shot from five yards out, giving the Lakers a 3-1 win.

Grand Valley State outshot the Oilers by a 22-5 advantage, including a 10-2 margin in shots on goal. Addison notched five points in the match, while Dingledine claimed three and Mruz two. The Lakers will host its final regular season match next Saturday, Oct. 30 against conference rival Ferris State at 12:00 p.m. The game will be televised and will be senior day for GVSU. The Lakers will also be wearing pink for breast cancer awareness.
