The Grand Valley State women's tennis team advanced to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament finals after defeating Wayne State 5-3 on Saturday evening (Oct. 23). The Lakers remain unbeaten on the year with the win and advance their record to 13-0 overall and 11-0 in GLIAC play. GVSU will play the winner of Ferris State-Northwood on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the championship match at the Midland Community Tennis Center.
The Lakers picked up one doubles win as Lexi Rice and Niki Shipman won at No. 3 doubles 8-3. Grand Valley State then notched wins at the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles to seal the win. Chelsea Johnston won at No. 3, 6-3, 6-4, while Lexi Rice record the victory at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3), Darylann Trout at No. 5 (6-3, 6-2) and Allison Fecko at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2).
