No. 3 Lakers Battle To a 1-1 Tie with Tiffin

Tiffin, Ohio - The No. 3 Grand Valley State women's soccer was unable to find the back of the net during 20 minutes of overtime action on Friday afternoon (Oct. 22), ending in a 1-1 tie with Tiffin. Junior Erin Mruz scored the lone goal for the Lakers, her ninth of the year. GVSU will continue its stay in Ohio and play the Oilers of Findlay on Sunday (Oct. 24) at 12:00 p.m.

Grand Valley State got on the scoreboard first during the 18th minute. Mruz received a free kick from senior Kristen Eible and then Mruz kicked it in from 18 yards out. Just ten minutes later at 28:19, Tiffin scored the equalizer after a deflected shot from four yards out. Tiffin rebounded the shot and knocked it in from the left side, 21 yards out.

During a scoreless second half of play, the Lakers took six shots, including two on goal, while the tough GVSU backline held the Dragons to just three shots and zero shots on frame.

The Lakers controlled the ball for most of the overtime periods, as GVSU took six shots to Tiffin's two. Grand Valley State and Tiffin were unsuccessful in placing the ball in the back of the net, resulting in a 1-1 tie.

GVSU outshot the Dragons by a 21-9 advantage, including an 8-3 margin in shots on goal. Grand Valley State's record now stands at 13-1-2 overall, 10-1-2 in GLIAC action, while Tiffin is 8-4-2 overall, 6-3-2 GLIAC.
