Grand Valley State's Kayla Addison scored three goals in the 5-0 win over Michigan Tech on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 17). The Lakers notched their eighth straight shutout win, while goalkeeper Chelsea Parise recorded her ninth shutout victory. GVSU advances its recorded to 13-1-1 overall and 10-1-1 in GLIAC action, while the Huskies fall to 7-7 overall and 5-7 GLIAC.
Addison recorded her first goal of the game during the first half of play at the 20:42 mark. The sophomore forward received a pass from Jaleen Dingledine from the right side. The Huskies' goalkeeper came up to block Addison's shot, but missed and Addison put the Lakers on the scoreboard 1-0.
During the second half of action, Addison was set up by teammates Dingledine and Taylor Callen during the 55th minute. Dingledine crossed the ball over from the right side of the field, where Callen found Addison and she then placed the ball in the back of the net.
Grand Valley State then recorded three goals in less than two minutes. It started with junior Erin Mruz at 83:05. Mruz received a pass from Jessica Trost and recorded her eighth goal of the year, giving the Lakers a 3-0 lead. Just 56-seconds later, Erika Pitroff notched her fourth goal of the season after Addison crossed the ball over from the left side. Pitroff placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the net. Addison then notched her third goal of the match 32-second later after Mruz crossed the ball over from the right, where Addison then toed it in, giving GVSU a 5-0 win.
Addison recorded seven points in the match and her hat-trick notched her team-high 12 goals and 29 points. The Lakers outshot Michigan Tech by a 28-4 margin, including a 21-4 advantage in shots on goal. Grand Valley State will host conference rival Ferris State on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 12:00 p.m. This game will be the last regular season match and will included the Lakers wearing pink in support of breast cancer awareness. The game will also be televised and will be senior day.
