Four different Grand Valley State players scored in the 4-0 win over Northern Michigan on Friday (Sept. 18) evening. The #4 Lakers (5-0-1, 2-0 GLIAC) blanked the Wildcats for their third shutout of the season. GVSU travels to Ashland, Ohio on Sunday (Sept. 20) to face the Eagles of Ashland at 12 p.m.
Junior forward Jaleen Dingledine started the scoring at the 35:24 mark when she ran down the middle of the field and took a pass from freshman Maria Brown. She finished by beating Northern Michigan goalie Kara Music for her first goal of the 2009 season and a 1-0 GVSU lead. Music finished the game with 10 saves, while Chelsea Parise made three saves to blank the Wildcats.
In the second half the Lakers notched three goals in the 45 minutes of play. During the 55th minute senior forward Irie Dennis recorded her second goal of the season when freshman Ashley Botts crossed a pass from the left side where Dennis knocked it in from eight yards out. Five minutes later at 60:48 Botts added her fifth goal of the season when she took a pass from Dennis putting it through the left side of the net, putting GVSU up 3-0. Freshman Erin Hilbert finished off the Wildcats when firing a shot from two yards out to give the Lakers the 4-0 win.
GVSU outshot the Wildcats by a 22-8 margin, and had a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Lakers advances their record to 5-0-1, 2-0 GLIAC while Northern Michigan falls to 3-3-0, 1-1 GLIAC).
