Lakers Drop Single Game to SVSU, 5-3

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State finished Saturday's suspended game on Sunday, losing 5-3 to Saginaw Valley State. The Lakers and Cardinals cancelled the second two games due to inclement weather.

Senior Andre Benjamin threw the first inning on Saturday, but sophomore Joe Jablonski took the mound on Sunday. He took the loss after allowing three runs in 4.1 innings. As a team, the Lakers scored three runs on nine hits, led by junior Cory Maguire's 3-for-4 performance.

Junior Kyle Gendron put GVSU up 2-0 in the bottom of the first with a home run to right-center field with senior Josh Hillyard on first base. After the game resumed on Sunday, the Cardinals got a run back in the top of the second inning, but senior Ben Knuth made it 3-1 with a solo shot to left field.

The Cardinals made it a one-run game in the top of the fifth inning and then took a 4-3 lead with two more in the top of the sixth. A final run in the top half of the seventh made the final score 5-3 in favor of SVSU.
