GVSU Fall At Home To Ashland, 10-6

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State dropped a 10-6 decision to Ashland Sunday afternoon at the Laker Baseball Field. GVSU drops to 33-10 overall and 17-8-1 in GLIAC action. The Lakers will be off during finals week, but will host Saginaw Valley State April 25 and 26.

Ashland took and early lead with three runs in the top of the first, however, GVSU came back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame. Ashland forged out into a 6-2 lead with three more runs in the top of the second and looked to be cruising to the Sunday win. GVSU scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to cut the Ashland lead to one (6-5). The Eagles sealed the win with two runs in the top of the seventh and two in the top of the ninth. GVSU scored its final run in the bottom of the eighth.

Ben Knuth took the loss for the Lakers, yielding six runs, three of which were earned, on sixth hits in two innings of work. Joe Jablonski went a strong six innings in relief. 2B Kyle Gendron was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while LF Matt Nickels was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
