Lakers Advance To GLIAC Championship Men's Tennis Match

Midland, Mich. - Grand Valley State advanced to to GLIAC Men's Tennis Championship match Sunday at 9 a.m. versus Northwood University. The title match will be played at the Midland Tennis Center. GVSU defeated Lake Superior State in quarterfinal action, then claimed a 5-4 win over Ferris State in semifinal action.

GVSU took an early lead on Ferris State with a 2-1 advantage after doubles action. The Lakers won at #1 and #3 doubles, then claimed wins at #1 singles by Tony Dang (6-2,6-4), #4 singels by Brock Pangger (6-1, 6-0). The Match was tied as the Lakers' Philipp Claus and Ferris State's Jack Swan battled in a three-set affair. Claus won the first set 6-2, but Swan claimed a 6-4 win in the second set. The third and match deciding third set was close throughout, but Claus clinched the semifinal win with a 7-5 victory.
