Lakers Split Weekend Matches with Northwood, Wayne State

DETROIT, Mich. - Grand Valley State dropped an 8-1 decision to Northwood on Friday, but responded with a 7-2 win over Wayne State on Saturday to split a weekend series. The loss snapped an 11-match win streak for the Lakers, who will close out the regular season on Tuesday.

Against Wayne State, the Lakers picked up wins in all three doubles contests. Tony Dang and Marc Roesslein won 8-4 in the top spot, followed by Alex Switzter and Matt Globerson claiming an 8-3 No. 2 doubles win. Philipp Claus and Brock Plangger closed out doubles play with a 207, 9-8, 10-4 win in the third slot.

In singles competition, GVSU dropped points at first and sixth singles, but picked up all four points in between. Roesslein was up 6-1, 1-1 when his opponent retired in the No. 2 spot. Claus won 6-3, 6-0 at second singles. Plangger and Swizter both required three sets to close out the match at fourth and fifth singles.

Against Northwood, Globerson and Switzer teamed up to earn GVSU's only point with a 9-7 win in second doubles.
