Lakers Down Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech in GLIAC Action

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Grand Valley State earned two wins over the weekend, taking GLIAC road wins at Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State. The Lakers are now 12-5 overall, including a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play.

On Sunday, the Lakers swept Michigan Tech 9-0 to improve 12-5 on the season. In doubles play, Tony Dang and Marc Roesslein teamed up to win in the first spot 8-4. Matt Globerson and Alex Switzer picked up an 8-5 win at second doubles, while Michael Coupek won 8-6 in the third slot.

Grand Valley State dominated singles play, as well, with Dang taking the first point 6-4, 6-3. Roesslein had a perfect match in second singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Philipp Claus took third singles down to the wire before winning 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 and Plangger did the same at fourth singles 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Switzer and Coupek closed out the win with 6-2, 6-2 wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

On Saturday, GVSU pulled out a 7-2 win over Lake Superior State. Dang and Roesslein had another first doubles win, 9-7. Switzer and Matt Globerson won 8-6 in the second slot for the second point.

The Lakers picked up five points in singles competition for the win. Dang won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles, followed a three-set win at third singles by Claus, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Plangger took a 6-3, 6-4 win at fourth singles followed by a 6-4, 6-7, 7-2 win by Switzer in the fifth slot. Coupek closed it out with a 6-1, 6-3 sixth singles win.
