Lakers Sweep Tiffin, Findlay for Perfect Weekend

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State ran its win streak to four matches with wins over Tiffin and Findlay this weekend. The Lakers, who have outscored their opponents 35-1 during the four-game span, blanked the Dragons on Sunday and followed that with a shutout win over Findlay on Sunday.

In the Sunday match, Grand Valley State posted its third consecutive 9-0 win, this one coming over Tiffin University. In singles play, the Lakers did not drop a set, starting with a 6-1, 7-5 win by Tony Dang in first singles. In the No. 2 spot, Marc Roesslein won 6-3, 6-1 and Philipp Claus earned a point with his 6-4, 6-2 win at third singles. Alex Switzer and Michael Coupek earned 6-1, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively, and sandwiched in between was a 6-1, 6-2 win by Jeff Globerson.

In doubles play, Dang and Roesslein won 8-3 in the top spot, followed by an 8-6 win by Switzer and Matt Globerson in the second flight. In third doubles, Coupek and Plangger won 8-1 to complete the game.

On Saturday, GVSU defeated the Dragons by a 9-0 margin and did not drop a singles set all match long. At first singles, Roesslein picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win, while Claus won 6-2, 6-3 at the second spot. Plangger blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at third singles and Switzer earned a point with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles. Jeff Globerson and Coupek earned 6-1, 6-1 wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

Dang and Roesslein teamed up for an 8-1 win at first doubles, followed by Switzer and Matt Globerson, who won 8-3 in the second spot. Finally, Coupek and Plangger posted a perfect 8-0 win at third doubles.
