#1 Grand Valley State Completes Three-Game Sweep Over Hillsdale With 7-3 Win

Hillsdale, Mich. - #1-Ranked Grand Valley State won its 13th straight game and completed a three-game sweep over Hillsdale Sunday with its 7-3 victory. GVSU upped its record to 21-2 overall and 5-0 in GLIAC action.

The Lakers started fast with a pair of runs in the top of the first. 2B Kyle Gendron walked and took second on an infield single by CF Casey Robrahn. A double by 1B Cory Maguire plated Gendron and Robrahn scored on a sacrafice fly by DH Brad Raj. GVSU added two more runs in the top of the fifth on two hits and a Charger error. 3B Josh Hillyard walked and stole second, then scored on a single by Maguire. Maguire took second on the throw home in an attempt to throw out Hillyard. Raj reached on an error and Maguire took third. RF Cody Grice drove home Maguire with a single to right. The Lakers added two more runs in the seventh on just one hit. Raj walked and took third on a double to leftcenter by Grice. SS Dan Anstedt scored Raj with a fielder's choice. Pinch hitter Torre Aguirre drove home Grice on a sacrafice fly to center. Maguire put the finishing touches on the win with a solo HR to right field. Hillsdale scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth on two hits and a Laker error.

Laker starter Ben Knuth struck out four and yielded just three hits in six innings of work. Knuth upped his record to 3-1 and lowered his ERA to 1.35 on the year. Freshman Cory Rademacher gave up two hits in two scoreless innings or work. 1B Cory Maguire continued his hot hitting with a 3-for-5 outing. Maguire drove in three runs and scored two. RF Cody Grice was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while LF Matt Nickels was 2-for-3.

Grand Valley State will host Western Michigan Tuesday (March 24) at 2 p.m., before hitting the road for a doubleheader at #12 Ashland Wednesday (March 25).
