Allendale, Mich. - Senior forward Pete Trammell scored 26 points and pulled down 11 rebounds on Senior Night as Grand Valley State claimed a 74-61 victory over Saginaw Valley State Saturday night. GVSU improved to 18-7 overall and 13-7 in GLIAC action.

The Lakers jumped out to an early 13-3 lead when Toreau Brown threw down a dunk at the 15:42 mark. However, a 13-2 run by Saginaw Valley State quickly changed the tide and the Cardinals were up 16-15 at the 10:56 mark. GVSU and SVSU traded buckets until Pete Trammell went on his own 6-0 run. Trammell hit three free throws and a three-pointer to give the Lakers a 32-26 lead with 1:28 left in the opening half. Three Saginaw Valley State free throws in the final 45 seconds pulled the Cardinals to within three (32-29) at the half.

Saginaw Valley State tied the game (34-34) early in the second half, but a Jerret Smith jumper at the 17:57 mark gave the Lakers the lead for good (36-34). Anthony Ianni hit a pair of free throws and GVSU was off and running. Saginaw Valley State would get no closer than four for the rest of the contest. Toreau Brown scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half as the Lakers hit 12-of-26 shots from the floor and 17-of-20 from the charity stripe.

Trammell notched a double-double with a season-high 26 points and 11 rebounds. Brown tallied 14 points. Freshman guard Alvin Storrs added 12 points and four steals. Grand Valley State outrebounded Saginaw Valley State 43-33 and hit 31-of-39 free throws.
