#16 GVSU Sweeps Indianapolis to Win Third Straight

INDIANAPOLIS - Grand Valley State earned its third consecutive win to start the spring season, sweeping Indianapolis 9-0. The No. 16 Lakers won every set en route to the convincing victory.

Audrey Koopsen and Maria Gassanova won a point with an 8-3 victory at first doubles while the duos of Darylann Trout and Chelsea Johnston and Katelyn Schaffer and Jackie Shipman picked up 8-2 wins at second and third doubles, respectively.

Koopsen also won at first singles, taking a 6-2, 7-6 (6-4) win. Gassanova took the point at second singles relatively easily, winning 6-1, 6-3. Schaffer played in the closest match of the day in a 6-4, 7-6 (6-4) win at third singles. Johnston's No. 4 singles match finished 6-1, 6-0 and Trout took a 6-2, 6-4 win in the fifth slot. Shipman closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win in sixth singles.

The Lakers (13-2, 8-1 GLIAC) have gone 71-8 (.899) in dual singles play, including a 49-5 (.907) mark in GLIAC singles. Trout is 14-0 in dual singles, which leads the team, while both Schaffer and Shipman have won all 13 of their dual singles matches. GVSU has not lost a match at third, fifth or sixth singles this year.
