No. 4 Lakers Battle To 1-1 Tie With Saginaw Valley State

University Center, Mich. - The #4 ranked women's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net during 20 minutes of overtime action Sunday afternoon (Oct. 4), ending in a 1-1 tie against Saginaw Valley State. GVSU will travel to Marquette, Mich. on Friday (Oct. 9) to take on the Wildcats of Northern Michigan at 4: 00 p.m.

After going down 1-0 in the first half, freshman midfielder Erin Hilbert sent the game into overtime when she scored her sixth goal of the season. At the 84:40 mark Hilbert scored an unassisted goal giving the Lakers a 1-1 tie. During the first 90 minutes of play, Grand Valley State outshot the Cardinals by a 20-10 margin, while goalie Chelsea Parise recorded four saves allowing one goal.

The Lakers controlled the ball during the two overtime periods, but could not find the back of the net. Grand Valley State took five shots, placing four on goal, while Saginaw Valley State took two, placing one on goal.

GVSU has an unbeaten streak of 52 regular season games and 33 unbeaten conference matches dating back to the 2006 season. The Lakers remain unbeaten this year with a record of10-0-2, 6-0-1 GLIAC, while Saginaw Valley State remains unbeaten in conference with a record of 8-1-2, 5-0-2 GLIAC.
