No. 3 Lakers Shut Out Northwood in 8-0 Win

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State picked up its 16th regular season win and it 12th Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win Wednesday (Oct. 28) evening, defeating the Timberwolves of Northwood 8-0. GVSU has improved its unbeaten streak to 58 regular season games and 38 unbeaten conference matches dating back to the 2006 season. The #3 Lakers will travel to Big Rapids, Mich. on Friday (Oct. 30) to face Ferris State in their last regular season match. The game will get underway at 3:00 p.m.

Grand Valley State got on the board early when Jaleen Dingledine scored her seventh goal of the season. At 2:44 Erin Mruz found Megan Brown where she crossed it over to Dingledine. Dingledine then placed it in the back of the net from five yards out, giving GVSU a 1-0 lead. During the 24th minute, Katie Johnson passed it to Dingledine where she crossed it to Ashley Botts. Botts then knocked it in from eight years out, recording her team-high 12th goal on the year. Just a minute later senior forward Irie Dennis crossed up a defender, placing the ball in the right side of the net, giving the Lakers a 3-0 lead.

Freshman forward Kayla Addison scored back-to-back goals during the 35th and 42nd minutes, giving GVSU a 5-0 lead at the half. During the second half, Dingledine added her second goal of the match, while at 73:00 Addison notched her third goal of the game. GVSU wasn't done with the Timberwolves just yet, senior defender Caitlin Boyak took a shot from 35 yards out, placing it over the goalkeepers head, giving the Lakers an 8-0 win.

GVSU outshot Northwood 35-4, including a 15-1 advantage on shots on goal. Grand Valley State recorded its 12th shutout on the season. The Lakers advance their record to 16-0-2, 12-0-1 GLIAC, while Northwood falls to 7-9-1, 4-8-1 GLIAC.
