GVSU Collects 11th Shutout in 2-0 Win over SVSU

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State picked up its 11th Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win and its 11th shutout victory Sunday (Oct. 25) afternoon, defeating the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State 2-0. GVSU improves its unbeaten streak to 57 regular season games and 37 unbeaten conference matches dating back to the 2006 season. The #5 Lakers will host Northwood on Wednesday (Oct. 28) at 4:00 p.m.

The Lakers scored their first goal early in the match at the 5:44 mark. Junior Jaleen Dingledine came down the right side where she crossed it over to freshman Ashley Botts. Botts knocked it in from five yards out, recording her 11th goal of the season. GVSU scored its second goal of the game after a SVSU foul, giving sophomore Erin Mruz a free kick. The ball was kicked before freshman Erin Hilbert put it through the back of the net from three yards out, giving the Lakers a 2-0 win.

Goalie Chelsea Parise recorded three saves in the match and picked up her ninth shutout victory. Grand Valley State outshot the Cardinals 24-6, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. GVSU advances its record to 15-0-2, 11-0-1 GLIAC, while Saginaw Valley State falls to 12-2-2, 9-1-2 GLIAC.
