#5 Lakers Pick Up 2-1 Win Over Tiffin

Tiffin, Ohio - Grand Valley State defeated Tiffin 2-1 on Sunday (Oct. 18) afternoon, earning its 10th conference match win. The Lakers advance their unbeaten streak to 56 regular season games and 36 unbeaten conference matches, dating back to the 2006 season. GVSU will host Northwood on Friday (Oct. 23) at 4:00 p.m.

Senior midfielder Katie Johnson got the Lakers on the board at the 35:26 mark, when she took a pass from senior defender Natalja Stanski. Johnson took a shot from 20 yards out placing it in the high right corner of the net, giving GVSU a 1-0 lead. Kayla Klosterman recorded her second goal of the season during the 71st minute when she connected with freshman forward Maria Brown. Klosterman took a straight shot from the 20 yard line placing it in the left side of the net.

Tiffin scored with five minutes left in the match, but wasn't enough to top GVSU, giving the Lakers a 2-1 win. Grand Valley State outshot Tiffin 18-1, including an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal. GVSU advances its record to 14-0-2, 10-0-1 GLIAC, while Tiffin falls to 5-5-2, 5-4-2 GLIAC.
