#10 Grand Valley State claimed a 10-1 victory over Calvin College Tuesday night in Grand Rapids. GVSU improves to 21-4 with the win, while Calvin falls to 16-2. The Lakers will be at Hillsdale College Wednesday (April 9) at 2 p.m. for a GLIAC doubleheader.
GVSU scored three runs in the second on three hits. LF Matt Nickels drove in two runs with a double to right. CF Pat Radde drove in Nickels with a single to center. GVSU scored an unearned run in the third, but Calvin came back with a single run in the bottom of the fourth. Grand Valley State added three more runs in the fifth on four hits. 2B Josh Hillyard opened the inning with a double and advanced to third on a single by 1B Casey Robrahn. SS Justin Beal drove in Hillyard, while Robrahn and Beal scored on a single by DH Cory Maguire. The Lakers finished the scoring with a run in the top of the eighth and two runs in the top of the ninth. GVSU scored 10 runs on 15 hits, while Calvin managed one run on three hits.
Sophomore Brennan Glass picked up his first win of the year. Glass struckout three and yielded one run on two hits in six innings of work. Matt Huml, Brandon Dickinson and David Bowman yielded just one hit in the final three innings.
Robrahn was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Nickels drove in two runs on two hits. Hillyard, Beal and Maguire each collected two hits.
