Lakers Fall In GLIAC Championship Match

The GVSU men's tennis team was defeated in the GLIAC Championship match on Sunday by Northwood by a score of 5-0. The Lakers fall to 19-5 on the season and receive a second place finish in the GLIAC, while Northwood improves to 12-2. The Lakers will await information about postseaon play.

In doubles play, Tony Dang and Patryk Polus put up a fight in the No. 1 slot, but fell at the hands of Peter Kazianschuetz and Pierre Martiner Bot, 8-6. Patrick Troy and Renato Tamashiro were defeated by Betrand Vigouroux and Olivier Brignoli by an 8-2 score, while Alex Switzer and Matt Globerson were bettered in the third doubles position by Carlos Canudas and Alex Minicozzi, 8-2.

It took just two singles matches for Northwood to seal the victory. In the top slot, it was Kazianschuetz defeating Dang in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The other victory went to Brignoli, who topped Troy in the No. 3 singles spot, 6-2, 6-1. The remaining matches were unfinished.
