GVSU Splits Sunday Twinbill At Wayne State; Winning 7-2 and Losing 9-8

Detroit, Mich. - Grand Valley State split a Sunday GLIAC doubleheader at Wayne State, winning game one 7-2, before dropping game two 9-8. GVSU is now 26-10 overall and 12-6 in GLIAC action.

Game 1

GVSU scored two in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Wayne State scored one in the bottom of the fifth, while the Lakers added a seventh run in the top of the sixth. Andre Benjamin improved to 7-0 with the win, yielding two runs on five hits. Benjamin struck out four. CF Pat Radde was 3-for-4 with two RBI, DH Casey Robrahn was 3-for-4 with one RBI, while 1B Cory Maguire collected two hits and drove in two runs. LF Matt Nickels was 3-for-4.

Game 2

Grand Valley State scored three in the first and three in the third to take a 6-0 lead. Wayne State scored four in the fourth, but GVSU picked up another run in the top of the fifth to take a 7-4 lead. The Lakers and Warriors traded runs before a four-run sixth gave Wayne State a 9-8 lead. GVSU was unable to score in the top of the seventh. Cory Maguire drove in two runs with a single, while 3B Dan Anstedt plated a pair with a double. SS Justin Beal was 2-for-4, Anstedt was 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Nickels was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Andre Benjamin took the loss in relief.
