Moleski Plates Five in Split with Findlay

Findlay, Ohio - Kristin Moleski batted in five runs and scored another herself to help Grand Valley State earn a split with Findlay on Thursday, April 17. The No. 15 Lakers dropped a 3-2 decision to the Oilers in game one before rebounding with an 8-2 win in the second game of the twinbill. Moleski accounted for six of GVSU's 10 runs on the day. The Lakers are now 22-11 on the season with a 7-5 GLIAC mark.

The Lakers out-hit the Oilers nine to four in game one, but couldn't plate the important runs. Grand Valley State scored twice on nine hits with one error, while Lori Andjelich (9-6) allowed three runs, just one earned, on four hits in six innings of work. She also struck out six and walked three. Nichole Woityra paced the Lakers offensively, going 3-4 with one run batted in.

Findlay struck first, scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out double. The Lakers battled back and tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. Rebecca Plummer hit a one-out triple and Breanne Kronberg plated her on a single in the next at-bat to make the score 1-1. The Oilers retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring twice to make the score 3-1.

GVSU threatened in the sixth inning with back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, but a one-out double play with a runner on third negated the chance. In the seventh, Sarah Holland had a two-out single to right field and scored on an error after a single by Woityra. Woityra advanced to third as the tying run after the error, but a foul out ended the game with Findlay leading 3-2.

In game two, Stephanie Cole held the Oilers to two runs, one earned, on four hits through seven innings of work. She also struck out five and walked no batters. Grand Valley State scored eigh runs on seven hits and four Findlay errors. Moleski led the way, going 2-4 with one run scored and another five batted in.

The Lakers started strong, scoring three runs in the first inning. Two straight errors put runners on, and a triple by Moleski scored both of them. Moleski than scored on a throwing error to make the score 3-0 early. The Lakers tacked on another two runs in the second. Becky Rudenga led off with a single to right-center field and went to second after a single by Holland. Woityra walked to load the bases and a double to left field by Moleski scored another two runs to make it 5-0 in favor of the Lakers.

After Findlay scored in the fourth, GVSU scored another two in the fifth. With two outs, Plummer doubled and then reached third on a passed ball. An error allowed Plummer to score and Breanne Kronberg to go to first. She took second on a wild pitch and scored on a Lisa Preuss single. The Lakers scored their final run in the sixth when Woityra singled in Karen Walters to make the score 8-2.
