GVSU Tops Findlay, 9-0

The Grand Valley State men's tennis team defeated Findlay by a score of 9-0 on Saturday, improving their record to 16-5 on the season. The Lakers swept singles and doubles play en route to the victory. The Lakers second match of the day, vs. Tiffin, was cancelled due to lack of availability of tennis courts. GVSU will be in action on Sunday, as they finish their road trip at Mercyhurst.

The Lakers won all singles matches in straight sets. Tony Dang picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win over Travis Whipple, while Renato Tamashiro earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Steven Fox in the No. 2 singles position. Patrick Troy blanked his opponent, 6-0, 6-0, while Philipp Claus earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Alex Switzer was also victorious, as he recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win over ORry Kennedy.

Doubles play saw similar domination, as Dang and Patryk Polus teamed up for an 8-5 win in No. 1 doubles. Troy and Tamashiro were able to blank Matt Thomas and Jitrat Jaidee, 8-0, and Switzer and Matt Globerson earned an 8-2 win in the No. 3 doubles slot. Switzer and Globerson have compiled an impressive 21-4 record on the year.
